A lightweight carbon crown means a deep CG and improved forgiveness from this shallow and wide profile driver. The rules might limit driver head size nowadays but every year it seems some seriously smart engineer comes up with new ways to make cc heads look bigger than they actually are. Which for plenty of golfers means extra confidence and much needed launch. Have you heard of Ryo Ishikawa? And he plays a Yonex driver. So when I was given the opportunity, I jumped at the chance to test one.
Give me a good old pear-shaped head every time The crown features a classic black finish and is made of a strong but lightweight carbon material. Not the easiest to align. By Joel Tadman published 9 April Key technology - A high-tensile, Honeycomb Structure graphite crown allows for more flex at the top of the face.
GM Review Yonex might be a brand best known for its graphite shafts, but its talents spread much wider into metalwood design and specifically the new Ezone GS driver. It has interchangeable 2g and 8g weights on the sole, with one port located in the heel that enables golfers to increase the draw bias on offer. The hosel is also adjustable for loft and face angle to help tighten start lines and optimise launch.
The Ezone GS has a traditional look at address, with a premium matte finish and rounded profile. This driver feels incredibly solid from a wide area and this translated into good distance without seemingly sacrificing accuracy.
Carries hovered around the yard mark, maxing out at yards, which is no slump by any means. However, It is not so hard to hit that I want to give up just yet. Just hard enough to motivate me to swing and hit better. I am hoping over time that it will train me to hit more consistently wth better control. My nomal trajectory is high … so I typically choose a shaft that gives lower trajectory. This DJ7 shaft is designed for higher trajectory. Distance: I was getting good distance even with the higher trajectory.
I feel that I can gain another 10 to 15 yards if I reshaft and get a lower trajectory with more roll. Controllability: Very responsive when you attempt to work the ball. Hook, draw, fade, slice … you name it… it responds very well. Feel: To me, it felt great … Not too soft … just right. You can feel the ball being smashed on the face ….. Sound at impact: Muted but lively! Personally, I think Yonex nailed it! It is the perfect sounding head in my opinion. Very classic looking. Sexy curves :.
In comparison with my Ace driver back home , PIng i15 9. CPM measured out as …. In retrospect, I may have been better off with an X flex … but I can always reshaft. The trajectory seemed higher in comparison to my i15 most likely due to the shaft difference , But I plan on doing a direct comparo when I go home next week. Over the last 12 months, I have been on a seemingly endless journey in search for a driver that suits me best.
